3K Integrates Theft Recovery System Into Its Notebooks

The solutions helps track missing computers.

Florida-based computer manufacturer 3K Computers, LLC (3K) announced it is now offering Computrace, a theft recovery system, in its Longitude Semi-Rugged Notebook Series.

Computrace LoJack for Laptops is a theft protection service that tracks, locates and recovers stolen laptop and desktop computers. Installed software silently and securely contacts a monitoring center, and if stolen, reports the location of the computer while using any Internet connection. This information is then shared with local law enforcement officers to recover the stolen computer.

In the current business climate of the 'mobile workplace,' one of the most troubling aspects of security for IT departments nationwide is that of laptop security. Thousands of laptops are stolen or misplaced each year, many containing highly sensitive materials, customers' personal information, and companies' financial records. According to the FBI, 97 percent of computers without a tracking device are never recovered.

"We are pleased to be able to provide this necessary LoJack security measure to our customers," said Dan Jacobs, CEO of 3K Computers. "In the unfortunate event that a notebook computer is stolen, this technology will aid authorities in tracking down and recovering the missing laptop and data, and prosecuting the criminal element."
