DSI is part of the country's Agency for Science, Technology and Research, and serves as a vital node in a global community of knowledge generation and innovation, nurturing research talent and capabilities for world class R&D in next-generation technologies. As Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board, Mr. Yoshida will lead the team's initiatives in reviewing and developing DSI's technology roadmaps, and identifying relevant research programs and activities to achieve DSI's research goals.

Today's announcement underscores Mr. Yoshida's role as a storage industry and virtualization thought leader. Widely regarded as an industry luminary, Mr. Yoshida has been helping to lead innovation throughout the storage and information technology industries for more than 35 years. In October of 2006, Byte and Switch named him one of 'Storage Networking's Heaviest Hitters' and most recently, his blog, titled Hu's Blog, was ranked among the 'top 10 most influential' within the storage industry by Network World. Mr. Yoshida has authored several papers on storage area networks (SANs), Fibre Channel, multi-protocol SANs and storage virtualization technologies. He has also served on the advisory boards of several technology companies.

"Hubert Yoshida is an acclaimed storage industry professional whose knowledge and vision are tremendous assets to the Data Storage Institute," said Dr. Pantelis Sophoclis Alexopoulos, Executive Director of the Data Storage Institute. "We are privileged to have Mr. Yoshida serve as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board. Our organization will benefit greatly from the Board's guidance on the development of our technology roadmaps and recommendations for future research programs."

"I am honored to serve as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Data Storage Institute, and I look forward to collaborating with my esteemed colleagues to strengthen the Institute's role as a research and development center of excellence in data storage technologies," said Hubert Yoshida, vice president and chief technology officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "It's the work of organizations like DSI that contributes greatly to fostering innovation and new technology breakthroughs. I am excited to offer my knowledge and insight to help steer these efforts forward."

Currently at Hitachi Data Systems, Mr. Yoshida is responsible for defining the company's technical direction and leads the company's efforts to help customers address their data life cycle requirements around compliance, governance and operational risk issues. He was instrumental in evangelizing the unique Hitachi Data Systems approach to storage virtualization, which leverages existing storage services within the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform and extends it to externally attached, heterogeneous storage systems. Since joining the company in 1997, Mr. Yoshida has worked to develop open standards for storage management and has helped to define the Hitachi Data Systems strategies for SANs, network attached storage (NAS) and other network-related storage and data technologies.

Prior to Hitachi Data Systems, Mr. Yoshida spent 25 years with the storage division of IBM, where he held management roles in hardware performance, software development and product management.

He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in mathematics.
