ITG Introduces DiscXpressII
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on Mon, June 23rd, 2008
It connects with self-checkout systems to deliver DVDs and CDs from a secure storage unit.
"The secure checkout and dispensing of DVDs and CDs has, until now, posed a particular challenge to libraries looking for a complete self-checkout solution," said Shai Robkin, president and CEO of ITG. "The Apex DiscXpressII is an exciting complement to our expanding line of self-checkout, RFID and automated materials handling products."
The DiscXpressII also includes models with freestanding Hamsa towers, which hold up to 500 discs each. The sleek, compact unit includes a cabinet that allows staff easy access to the carousels where disks are securely stored. Simple onscreen instructions guide patrons through the self-checkout process.
Other features of the Apex DiscXpressII include:
- Totally secure, locked storage of DVDs and CDs with disks dispensed to patrons only after proper checkout
- Libraries with larger AV collections may opt for the DiscXpressII Release Station. Disks are distributed in a separate step after successful checkout by staff or by patrons at the Apex XpressCheck. Patrons simply scan their patron cards and the disks checked out to them are dispensed.

- Multi-part sets dispensed as easily as single disks
- Continued deactivation of electromagnetic (EM) security strips and RFID security bits at the Apex XpressCheck station for those materials not secured in the Apex DiscXpressII unit
- Data transfer that is handled by the Apex XpressCheck, making a connection to a library database unnecessary
- Fast loading of disks without a single keystroke -- simply scan an item's barcode or RFID tag and insert the disk(s) into the slot
