India imposes anti-dumping taxes on Vietnam’s DVDs
The Directorate General of Anti-Dumping (DAGD) under the Indian Ministry of Commerce has confirmed that it has investigated Digital Versatile Discs Recordable (DVD-R) and Rewritable (RW) imported from Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade says that the DGAD has determined that manufacturers and exporters from these countries have been selling their products in the Indian market at prices much lower than their normal value. Accordingly, the anti-dumping levy for Vietnam stands at 64.09 percent or US$50.51 per 1000 units, while the corresponding figures for Malaysia and Thailand are 34.05 percent and 22.51 percent respectively. In 2008 and 2009, Vietnam’s DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs accounted for 12.11 percent of the Indian DVD market.

Our comments :
The official complaint to the Indian Directorate General was filed by Optical Disc Manufactures Welfare Association, led by Moser-Baer and Euro Multivision, two competitors of Ritek, probably the main Vietnamese exporter of optical writable discs. There was also Computerskill but we didn't get recent information about this company. Among the others in Vietnam, there are also apparently Softalk Technologies and Siddharth Optical Disc.
