Hie Electronics Sold Its TeraStack to HKS

Using Blu-ray and reducing storage footprint by 75%

Hie Electronics, Inc. announces the sale of its TeraStack Solution product to HKS, Inc., a top-three international architecture and engineering firm.

The TeraStack Solution is a leading green tech data processing and storage product. Nationwide there is a focus on decreasing IT data center electric power use. The EPA recently reported that 2 percent of our electric grid is consumed annually by data centers. The TeraStack Solution significantly reduces environmental requirements of data centers and for all data storage users.

As a leading designer of green architecture, addressing our own data storage requirement with a green solution was the way to go,” said Rod Lanham, AIA, vice president/director of IT, HKS, Inc. “The physical footprint of the TeraStack Solution is only 1/4 rack in size and requires the same amount of electricity as a personal computer – eliminating the space, power and hard disk drive recycling requirements typical of major data storage arrays.

The social, environmental and economic impact of our highly green product is significant. The TeraStack Solution extends and expands data storage for users with long-term and large data object size storage demands,” said Pat Humm, CEO of Hie Electronics.

The product does not require a dedicated data storage room or traditional RAID back-up. The TeraStack Solution offers 50 terabytes (extendable) of online, near line and offline storage using Blu-ray discs in a structured optical solution. The scalability (into multiple petabytes) of the TeraStack Solution provides for rapidly expanding data storage and allows ample room for future application growth.
