Index Engines Received U.S. and European Patents

For searching and discovering data across primary and secondary storage

Index Engines announced the receipt of US patent # 7756837 and Euro patent # 1 738 260 DE FR GB for the technology behind Index Engines Unified Discovery Platform.

The patent was issued for Index Engines' approach towards the processing of enterprise data, making it searchable and discoverable across both primary and secondary (backup) storage. These patents serve as further validation that Index Engines is leading the data discovery market with an innovative approach to indexing enterprise data.

The Index Engines patents were awarded for the development of streaming indexing technology. All previous indexing solutions have required random access to data in order to generate a searchable index. Index Engines has engineered a platform that performs sequential processing of data. This now patented approach enables the indexing of electronic data as it flows to backup, as well as unprecedented, high speed indexing of network data at 1TB/hour.

Index Engines patented technology is a solution offering a unified approach for the discovery, identification, classification and management of both online and offline data, including backup tapes.

The architecture of the platform was designed from the ground up to support the massive challenges that exist with enterprise data:
  • Volume: Index Engines ability to index data at 1TB per hour using a single node eliminates the indexing bottleneck. Users can search large volumes of data very quickly versus having to wait days/weeks for the index to be generated.
  • Efficiency: A single Index Engine appliance can process up 70 TB of enterprise data. This makes the Index Engines platform the most efficient indexing solution on the market with an index footprint of only 5% of the original data.
  • Access: Important enterprise data resides in proprietary repositories such as email databases and backup tapes.  Index Engines has engineered access to these containers, delivering unfettered access to the file and email content without the use of the original software.
Index Engines has invested the engineering resources required to develop a platform that supports the unique requirements of the enterprise. The patented platform stands alone in the information discovery market, meeting the requirements of true enterprise-class data management.

"Index Engines technology was developed from scratch to provide enterprise-wide discovery in support of critical business processes such as eDiscovery, compliance and records management," said Tim Williams, CEO and co-founder at Index Engines. "This technology makes data accessible in a way that other indexing products, based on open source code, cannot mimic. By taking a fresh look at the problem and developing truly unique, and now patented, technology, Index Engines has brought to market a platform that enables scalable and efficient enterprise information discovery and management."

Index Engines Unified Discovery Platform
Index Engines Unified Discovery Platform takes a fresh approach for discovery of electronically stored information (ESI) in the enterprise. Enterprise data existing on networks, hard drives, even backup tapes can now be efficiently indexed, deduplicated, searched, managed and extracted through one powerful interface. The Index Engines platform indexes data from all storage containers for comprehensive discovery. The Unified Discovery Platform integrates high speed indexing into existing infrastructure that is non-invasive and highly efficient. Terabytes of data on network file servers can be processed at speeds of 1TB per hour. Only Index Engines makes information locked away on historical backup tapes easily accessible - without the need to restore the content. Even data on user desktops, or contained in forensic images can be easily discovered and collected.  One platform seamlessly indexes, searches and separates the relevant content from the mass of enterprise data, regardless of location, format or age.

The Index Engines platform also supports index and search capabilities up to one billion data objects in a single engine. The Index Engines index footprint averages 5%. Base price for the Index Engines platform for online network deployment is $85,000. Orders are now being accepted, with shipments within four weeks of the order date.
