All Servers From transtec now Available With SSDs

All servers and most PCs from the German
company transtec AG are now also available with Solid State Disks
(SSDs). transtec is planning to soon integrate the new technology into
the PROVIGO RAID systems. These are still being tested with the large
storage disks.
Solid State Disks are 50 times faster than even fast rotating hard drives.
The new storage technology ensures fast data access, less than 0.1 milliseconds.
Thanks to data transfer rates of up to 120 and 90 Megabytes per second (read and write speeds respectively),
systems with SSDs are characterized by a considerably better performance than HDD-based systems.
The new technology also delivers added security. The silent SSDs are hardened to impact loads and
sudden temperature fluctuations. With an average service life of one million hours before a possible
breakdown (MTBF), they are just as reliable as Enterprise Class hard disk drives. This makes them ideal
for use in security-sensitive environments while at the same time meeting high I/O performance requirements.
Prices of SSDs are currently between 17 and 20 euro per Gigabyte depending on the storage volumes.
