Comparing with the most widely-used IDE/ATA interface in the market, the new chipset supporting SATA interface is gradually replacing IDE interface as the mainstream interface due to transfer speed and space consideration. The board makers were used the CF cards or IDE/ATA interface storage devices based on the consideration of enhancing the reliability, saving space, and reducing the cost. This change of in chipset leads us to a new board design to support SATA SSD with a growing market.

However, the transformation process is not going well with two main reasons. First, current mechanical designs are mostly designed for IDE interface, and such designs not only use up much more space than SATA interface would, but also would cause the mechanical interference problems. Even the space occupied by SATA solution was saved up to 70% with reducing the interface width from 58mm to 17mm, it still takes time for the market to adjust new designs for SATA interface mainly. Second, the current SATA solution with 7 pin interface in the market requests for external power cable which does not meet the requirement for an environment with intense shocks and vibration, nor for the high wireless request.

InnoDisk SATADOM has been trimmed down in size measured only 20.5mm in length, 39mm in width, and 8mm in height; in terms of size, it is sized up 10 % of 2.5” SSD and 30% of 1.8” SSD. Using a SATA I interface and an industry standard SATA connector, InnoDisk SATADOM is easy to connect with SATA port. For any height restriction, SATADOM in horizontal-type design provides you for another option. With the convertible horizontal-type design measured 10.3mm in height, 30mm in length, and 18mm in width, the space restriction and mechanical interference can be avoided completely.
