And during the second quarter of the year, weaker-than-expected demand and softer prices on hard-disk drives contributed to the sector's two-largest players, Western Digital Corp. and Seagate Technology, getting their sails trimmed to the point that both companies' triple-digit percentage gains in 2009 might as well be forgotten.
