Mellanox Support IBM iDataPlex System

With its 20Gb IB adapters

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced that its ConnectX 20Gb/s InfiniBand adapters will provide a low-latency, high-performance interconnect for the IBM iDataPlex system. IBM iDataPlex is new category of server that increases compute density while significantly decreasing energy consumption and associated data center costs for Internet-scale computing.

"With our innovative iDataPlex system design, customers realize significant savings on power and cooling, as well as space," said Jim Gargan, vice president, IBM Systems & Technology Group. "IBM iDataPlex combined with Mellanox ConnectX adapters provide high-performance InfiniBand connectivity and scalability for high-performance computing data centers."

The use of multi-core CPUs, virtualized infrastructures and networked storage are driving the need for 20Gb/s InfiniBand which delivers leading efficiency of the entire IT computing and storage infrastructure. With Mellanox ConnectX, I/O consolidation of clustering, communication, storage and management traffic onto a single 20Gb/s InfiniBand fabric reduces both upfront capital costs and long term TCO with less fabric equipment to maintain.

"The exponential growth of enterprise data centers and extreme computing continues as streaming video, online gaming and social networks spike Internet traffic, requiring companies to build vaster pools of computers," said Thad Omura, vice president of product marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "The IBM iDataPlex rack system with Mellanox ConnectX connectivity enables extreme computing, real-time response, I/O consolidation and power savings for high-performance computing and the emerging cloud computing sectors."

Mellanox ConnectX 20Gb/s InfiniBand adapter cards are available today from IBM and IBM business partners.
