Arizona State University Selects Terascala Storage Appliance

Lustre-based

Terascala, Inc., a developer of high throughput, high capacity, and cost-effective storage solutions announced that Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering (ASU) has chosen the Terascala RTS 1000 storage appliance for use within its Fulton High Performance Computing Initiative.

ASU researchers use the Terascala RTS 1000 for storage of very large datasets generated during and after large scale simulations. These simulations cover a wide range of research projects, from atmospheric physics to weather prediction to astronomy research to computational fluid dynamics.

The Terascala solution enables us to provide the high throughput storage our scientists demand to complete their research,” said Dr. Dan Stanzione, director of the Fulton High Performance Center at ASU. “Fast, large scale storage is critically important to us, and the Terascala RTS 1000 delivers the performance we need in a cost-effective appliance.”

ASU’s Fulton High Performance Computing Initiative offers world class computing resources to the researchers and students in the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University. The Initiative is a hub for research in computing, collaborative research in the application of parallel computing systems, and a center for education in high performance computing systems.

Terascala’s RTS 1000 storage appliance is based on Lustre and offers significant price / performance advantages over alternative solutions in a fully configured and tuned appliance. The RTS 1000 works with Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet or InfiniBand networks to ensure that applications read, write and store data rapidly during run time.  ASU offers the Terascala solution as a Lustre-based storage option to its researchers seeking large amounts of fast storage.

Lustre is quickly becoming a standard file system for high performance computing across the globe, and the Terascala solution enabled us to quickly and cost-effectively deliver a Lustre environment to our researchers,” said Stanzione.  “Additionally, Terascala’s blade architecture enables us to quickly scale out performance to meet future needs.

Organizations struggling with how to best provide high throughput storage for their end users can leverage the RTS 1000 to ensure that applications are not limited by their ability to read, write and store data rapidly,” said Larry Genovesi, president and CEO of Terascala.  “And because it is an appliance, the RTS 1000 offers easy setup and can scale seamlessly to meet the changing demands of user’s compute environments.”
