One More Start-Up Discovered: Nutanix

Nutanix was born in 2009 and is based in Santa Clara, CA. Singh described the company's product as:" A Google-like scale-out compute and storage infrastructure for the virtualized datacenter that drives out the cost and complexity associated with network storage", applications being "server virtualization and desktop virtualization." On Linkedin, we also read that the "product (...) is designed ground-up to leverage trends in virtualization, solid state drives, and cloud computing, each of which plays a very critical role in reducing cost and management complexity, improving performance, and providing revolutionary data management capabilities to the enterprise." And on the Under The Radar's blog:" The appliance leverages server-attached SSDs and hard disks, enabling organizations to run virtual machines without requiring a complex and costly SAN or NAS infrastructure." No more.
The young firm received as much as $13.2 million in Series A over-subscribed financial funding from VCs Lightspeed Venture Partners and Blumberg Capital. It is currently hiring new employees.
The three co-founders with Indian names have excellent technology background and all of them come from start-up Aster Data Systems, in data management and analytics for diverse and big data, enabling the combination of storage and fast analysis of relational and non-relational data.
- Dheeraj Pandey, president and CEO, was a former VP engineering at Aster Data after working at Oracle where he managed development of storage engine for Oracle Database and Exadata.
- CTO Mohit Aron was an architect at Aster Data and previously at Google, in charge of the design and development of Google File System (GFS).
- Our contact, chief products officer Ajeet Singh was senior director of product management at Aster Data and prior to that worked at Oracle where he was part of the early team that defined Oracle's cloud computing strategy.
