Maxdata Succumbs to Bankruptcy
By Jean-Jacques Maleval, Mon, June 30th, 2008
Storage was a small part of its business.
Storage was a small part of Maxdata’s activities, mainly in desktop PC and monitors. The European company was selling NAS and SAN for SMBs as well as switches from Brocade, HBAs from Emulex and QLogic, tape drives, autoloaders and libraries from Tandberg and Quantum.
Maxdata AG, established in 1987, was first offered on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 1999, and has been listed on the Prime Standard stock market segment since 2003.
Headquartered in Marl, Germany, it has subsidiaries in UK, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, France, Spain, Poland and Italy.
The group recorded turnover of €102.3 million in 1Q08, compared to €114.9 million for the same period in the previous year, with net loss of €11.0 million against €7.2 million in 1Q07.
At least since 2005, Maxdata was not profitable, and, its sales (here in € millions) were continuously decreasing these last years:
2004: 660.0
2005: 657.4
2006: 524.8
2007: 468.8
Maxdata had 914 employees at the end of 1Q08, a figure to be compared to 1,243 in 2005.
