Our comments :
Sales of storage systems in Japan and outside (HDS) decreased 1% from
fiscal 4CQ08 to 4CQ09, and revenues of Hitachi GST are up 5% in yens
and 11% in U.S. dollars for the same two periods.
Shipments of HDDs increased 12% with desktop units continuing to
decrease (-18%) as sales of notebook devices are up 21%. But Hitachi
GST got good results in enterprise drives (+7%)
against its main competitor in this field, Seagate, and recorded
continuing surprising growth (+133%) in HDDs for specialized markets
like the
automotive
industry. For the first time, since its acquisition of Fabrik including
storage brands G-Technology and SimpleTech, Hitachi disclosed the results of
its external HDDs, 880,000 being sold in the last quarter and 1,550,000
during the year 2009.
