For parallel file system
The Parallel File System Team of Fraunhofer announced that their file system, FhGFS, has been chosen to power the storage of a new 800 node HPC cluster, the LOEWE-CSC at the Goethe University of Frankfurt. The system provided by ClusterVision will be one of the 100 fastest clusters in the world in Q4/2010, based on the Top500 classification. FhGFS will provide a sustained throughput of 10GB/s with 10 QDR Infiniband storage servers.
The Fraunhofer Competence Center for High Performance Computing started development of the parallel file system in 2005 to create a scalable, robust and easy to use solution that is especially dedicated to the HPC community. FhGFS is based on a very scalable distributed metadata architecture, provides native Infiniband support and comes with graphical management tools for monitoring and administration. The file system can run on a wide variety of hardware and software configurations and does not rely on specialized hardware like shared storage or specific Linux enterprise distributions.
FhGFS can be downloaded for free and is supported by Fraunhofer.

Our comments :
FhGFS is a free alternative to other parallel file systems like Lustre with emphasis on scalability through distributed metadata management and ease of use.
