FalconStor Software, Inc. announced that Korea East-West Power Company (EWP) has installed FalconStor Virtual Tape Library with deduplication to ensure business continuity by speeding up and simplifying backup and recovery.

Producing approximately 13 percent of Korea's total electric energy needs, EWP plays an important role in the Korean power industry. Recognizing that a system failure or site-level disaster would be catastrophic, its IT organization wanted to establish a solid disaster recovery center for business continuity. EWP placed a high priority on addressing its disaster recovery needs, especially since their six power stations are widely spread across South Korea and each are equally critical.

With FalconStor VTL and deduplication, users can schedule deduplication to run concurrently with backup, as soon as the first complete write to virtual tape finishes. Deduplication can also be set to run after the backup completes, with neither method impacting the backup window. Storage requirements are minimized to keep more data online for longer periods of time, reducing replication bandwidth requirements and overall data protection costs.
