Several University Post-Production Departments Turn to Facilis Technology

For its TerraBlock shared storage network

Facilis Technology, Inc., in shared media storage technology for post-production and content creation, announced further expansion within the academic market. More educational facilities use the TerraBlock shared storage network for ease of use, performance and expandability.

New academic clients include St. Claire College, Ontario, Nihon University, Tokyo, and Regent University, Virginia. These institutions join a list of colleges and universities already enjoying the benefits of TerraBlock, including University of Alabama, Auburn University, Oklahoma State, School of Visual Arts, University of Tennessee, Yale University and more.

"Moving data around to cater to the production schedule was becoming a hassle," said David Baughn, Director of Engineering at University of Alabama's Center for Public Television. "We were looking for a shared storage system that's easy to use, has the performance we need, and allows us to use whatever client software and platform we like. After a long process of evaluating every solution available to us, we determined the TerraBlock was the right product."

Facilis Technology's TerraBlock provides the bandwidth and scalability necessary to support any size classroom or post-production department in any academic environment. The Facilis Shared File System architecture is simple for students, faculty and production staff to master. Up to 100 users can connect simultaneously to TerraBlock through Ethernet or fibre channel, offering flexible storage access for instruction and training.

"TerraBlock brings the best value to educational institutions looking to improve the performance of their media labs, broadcast and production facilities," explains James McKenna, Vice President of Facilis Technology. "The Facilis Shared File System is fully scalable and flexible, allowing users to determine which high-performance or low-cost connections are right for their environment. TerraBlocks are deployed with low infrastructure costs, no per-seat license or support fees and deliver measurable return on an investment year-on-year for all our clients."
