BlueArc in De-Dupe With Permabit

Permabit Technology Corporation and BlueArc announced a new long-term OEM partnership.
BlueArc will embed Permabit’s Albireo technology, an OEM embedded data optimization solution delivering primary data deduplication, into its upcoming technology solutions.
BlueArc selected Albireo based on several key features:
"As more and more organizations are using virtual machines to drive resource efficiency in their server and desktop environments, the need for deduplication and data optimization to drive down storage costs is paramount. Our partnership with BlueArc will provide significant storage cost savings for customers that are working with virtualized environments," said Tom Cook, president and chief executive officer, Permabit.
"By forming this partnership with Permabit we are making a significant addition to our storage optimization software portfolio, which has been a key focus for BlueArc. Permabit’s Albireo technology allows us to add primary deduplication capability to our optimization suite that includes our JetClone space efficient writable clones, automated tiering with Data Migrator, third-party storage repurposing with Cross Volume Links, and content-aware compression and optimized metadata management," said Mike Gustafson, president and CEO, BlueArc. "Albireo's unique approach to deduplication means our customers will continue to see the industry-leading performance and reliability for which they depend on BlueArc, while significantly reducing primary storage consumption."

- High performance – Albireo provides the fastest data deduplication technology, critical for BlueArc’s high-performance storage systems.
- Scalability – Albireo can scale to multiple petabytes of storage capacity, meeting the requirements of even the largest BlueArc customers.
- Zero impact on performance – Albireo operates entirely outside the read path, meaning that there is zero performance impact on data reads. In BlueArc’s implementation case, there is also zero impact on write.
- Data safety – Albireo does not alter the data in any way, allowing for BlueArc storage systems to maintain full control of data integrity.
- VMware optimized – Albireo and BlueArc storage will provide the industry’s fastest primary storage solution with built-in data deduplication. This will allow VMware customers to dramatically increase performance and achieve enormous cost savings.
