Toshiba 15,000rpm Enterprise 2.5-inch HDD Up to 900GB

12Gb SAS interface

Toshiba Corporation’s Storage & Electronic Devices Solutions Company announced the AL14SX Series, new additions to its line-up of enterprise HDDs for mission critical server and storage applications.

Sample shipments start today.

The AL14SX Series of 15,000rpm 2.5-inch (1) drives features a 12Gb (2) SAS interface. Available models are 4K native and 512 emulation models that feature Advanced Format Sector Technologies, and 512 native model optimized for legacy applications and hypervisor environments.

It is available in 300GB, 600GB and 900GB capacities. The 900GB (3) model offers a 50% increase in maximum capacity from the 600GB of the predecessor AL13SX Series. The 4Kn and 512e models also delivers an approximately 19% increase in sustained data rate, pushing it to 290MB/s (4), and an approximately 28.7% improvement in power efficiency (W/GB). These improvements in capacity, speed and power-saving contribute to a lower TCO for the server and system.

Customers also can select models supporting Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE), which realizes fast invalidation of data recorded on the disks, allowing for efficient disposal and reuse.

(1) 2.5-inch means the form factor of HDDs. They do not indicate drive’s physical size.
(2) Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device, read and write conditions, and file size.
(3) Toshiba defines MB as 1,000,000 bytes, GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes and TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer OS, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 230 = 1,073,741,824 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and OS, such as Microsoft OS and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
(4) KB means 210, or 1,024 bytes, MB means 220, or 1,048,576 bytes, and GB means 230, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.
