Steve Sicola Board’s Director, Symbolic IO

Was technical advisor to CEO at Seagate, CTO of X-IO Technologies, CTO of Compaq StorageWorks.

Symbolic IO Corporation, developer of computational-defined storage solution, IRIS (Intensified RAM Intelligent Server), announced that storage industry veteran Stephen Sicola joined the company as an advisor and board member, serving in this capacity since January 2017.

With four decades of experience in developing hardware and software solutions, he has been involved in many industry-first innovations that have transformed the storage industry. He has worked for and advised leading companies such as Seagate Technology, Compaq (now HPE), and Digital Equipment Corporation.

Symbolic IO offers a computing platform based on patented computational-defined storage algorithms. Its IRIS product line accelerates all functions related to both the processing and the storing of data to operate seamlessly in the memory channel, ensuring the highest possible performance.

The architecture of IRIS combines compute, storage, backup and security in one box, delivering unprecedented speed, performance, and scalability,” explained Sicola. “IRIS is an enterprise’s dream machine. Currently, Sicola is an advisor for multiple companies and has a consulting practice as well. He is corporate fellow in Western Digital‘s eSSD business unit. Prior to this, he was technical advisor to the CEO at Seagate Technology, CTO of X-IO Technologies, VP and GM of Seagate’s advanced storage architecture group, CTO of Compaq StorageWorks, and a corporate consulting engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation. A technical visionary and architect, he was instrumental in bringing an array of hardware, software and systems to market, including array controllers, backplane controllers, modular arrays, an autonomic storage device, and SANs.
