Iron Mountain Appoints Fidelma Russo as CTO

She has one of the most impressive resume in storage.

Iron Mountain,RussoFidelma Russo has one of the most impressive curriculum vitae in storage. She is one of the rare women in the sector with such high executive positions in an industry monopolized by men, with the exception of girls including Paula Long, CEO of DataGravity, Florence Shih, the big boss of Thecus, or Sandy Sun Seagate’s VP and GM for AsiaPac and China sales.

Another big exception is the number of young women employed with low salaries in HDD manufacturing plants in Asia.

Russo will be appointed CTO of Iron Mountain Incorporated in mid-March. She will also serve as a member of company’s senior executive team reporting to president and CEO William L. Meaney.

Consequently she will leave Dell EMC where she was SVP and GM for the technology company’s enterprise storage and software business since 2011.

Prior to EMC, she was COO for Sepaton/HDS from 2007 to 2010, where she drove significant growth for the company’s data protection products and also helped raise more than $25 million in venture funding to spur that growth.

She has also held senior business and technology leadership roles:

  • at HP as VP, Adaptive infrastructure, in 2006-2007
  • at Sun Microsystems as SVP and GM network storage and software for three years until September 2006
  • at Dell EMC for the first time as VP from 1999 to 2002
  • at Data General Corporation before that as group VP Aviion servers and software during four years
  • at Digital Equipment Corporation from 1984 to 1994 as design engineer and then senior manager Alphaserver

Russo earned an engineering degree from University College Cork (Ireland) and holds a masters in Computer Science from Boston University. She holds two US patents and serves on the board of Wolters Kluwer BV since 11 months.
